What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation. It is done through touch and unseen energy flow. A warm and soothing energy flows from the hands of the practitioner into the client. When your life energy (also known as “KI”) is low it is more difficult to deal with stress, you may not sleep well and you’re more susceptible to illness. When your KI is strong, you feel strong, can more easily deal with stress and are less likely to get sick. Reiki is a technique that increases a person’s supply of life energy. Reiki also provides cleansing and healing of the Aura, Chakra alignment and promotes physical, emotional, mental and/or spiritual healing.
What are the benefits?
Reiki energy allows muscles to relax and increases blood flow. Clients report help with stress, headaches, insomnia, sprains and other minor conditions. Reiki also promotes psychological healing such as release of anger, fear, worry, sadness and other unhealthy feelings and replaces them with self-worth, confidence and tranquility. Reiki supports personal inner work and healing such as patience, love for self and others, non-competitiveness, non-judgmental, forgiveness and gratitude.
What is a session like?
A Reiki session begins with talking through your specific intentions. A smudging of your Aura is done to cleanse away any negative energies and prepare for Reiki energy. Reiki is administered through the hands of the Reiki Practitioner while lying fully clothed on a massage table. The Reiki Practitioner places hands at locations around the head and shoulders, the abdomen and on the legs and feet. Tissue is not manipulated. The practitioner’s hands are simply held at each location, lightly touching or slightly away from the body. Reiki energy flows from the practitioner’s hands and into your body and energy field. Reiki is extremely relaxing and it’s common for clients to fall asleep. In closing, you and the practitioner will share any intuitive guidance received during the session. Reiki sessions are approximately 90 minutes.
Is Reiki a religion?
While Reiki is spiritual in nature in that it provides love and compassion to the client, it is not a religion. It has no dogma and does not conflict with religious beliefs. People who are followers of all the various religions have practiced Reiki and find that it enhances their religious experience.
